Sildenafil citrate is the active ingredient in Caverta 100 MG Tablet, which is informally also known as "the blue pill". It used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED), which is also called impotence, in men. Erectile dysfunction is a condition where a man is unable to get or keep a penile erection adequate for sexual intercourse. It happens when there is a decreased blood flow to the penis which may be caused due to physical problems such as an injury or diseases or due to psychological causes such as anxiety, stress, depression, etc. Caverta 100 MG Tablet relaxes the smooth muscles present in the wall of blood vessels and helps in increasing the flow of blood. It works well when the underlying cause of erectile dysfunction is physical. If the underlying cause of erectile dysfunction is psychological, this medicine may or may not work, based on the severity of the condition. In cases of psychological causes or both psychological and physical causes, it is important to undergo counseling along with the treatment with this medicine to achieve the best possible effect. It is also important to note that this medicine does not offer any protection against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as syphilis, gonorrhea, HIV, etc.; hence, adequate safety measures should be taken while having sexual intercourse. This medicine may cause severe side effects such as a prolonged and painful erection that lasts for more than 4 hours, loss of vision in one or both the eyes, hearing impairment, etc. This medicine is generally not recommended for use in women and children but may be used for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (high blood pressure levels in the arteries connecting the heart and the lungs) after taking into consideration all the risks and benefits associated with its use.
