Description:
Krimson 35 is used in the treatment of severe androgen dependent acne in women, refractory to prolonged oral antibiotic therapy; androgen dependent alopecia and moderately severe hirsutism.
Cyproterone acetate contained in Krimson 35 blocks androgen receptors. It also reduces androgen synthesis both by negative feedback effect on the hypothalamo pituitary ovarian systems and by the inhibition of androgen synthesizing enzymes. The stimulating effect of male sex hormones on androgen dependent structures and functions os weakened or abolished by cyproterone acetate. Cyproterone acetate inhibits the influence of androgens and reduces the activity of sebaceous glands, which plays an important role in the development of acne and seborrhea. Apart from the described antiandrogen effect, cyproterone acetate also has a pro gestational action. Ethinylestradoil in the combination inhibits ovulation and change the cervical mucus and the endometrium rendering them unfavorable for sperm penetration and nidation of a fertilized ovum respectively.
Krimson 35 is composed of the progestogen cyproterone acetate and the estrogen ethinyloestradiol and is administered for 21 days of a monthly cycle. It therefore has a similar composition to that of a combined oral contraceptive (COC). The use of any COC or Krimson 35 carries an increased risk for venous thromboembolism (VTE), including deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. The excessive risk of VTE is highest during the first year a woman ever uses a COC.

Side Effects:
