Description:
Acnestar Gel is an antibiotic used to treat a numerous bacterial infections like pneumonia, strep throat, pelvic inflammatory disease, middle ear infections, bone or join infections, endocarditisamong others. It is administered orally, or intravenously or as foam, gel, lotion or cream applied to the skin.
Acnestar Gel belongs to a lincosamide class of antibiotics and works by blocking bacteria from synthesising protein. This drug should be used to treat bacterial infections only and not against viruses, such as for common cold or flu.
Common side effects of Acnestar Gel include diarrhoea, jaundice, nausea, rashes on skin, urinating less than usual or not at all, pain at the site of injection, fever, body aches, unusual bleeding or easy bruising. If the side effects are more severe or persistent it is advisable to consult a doctor and discontinue the medication.
It is advised to avoid taking Acnestar Gel if –
- You suffer from gastrointestinal diseases.
- You are allergic to lincosamides
- You have asthma, a liver disease, eczema, Crohn’s disease, or an intestinal disease.
- You are breastfeeding a baby.
Acnestar Gel may interact with other drugs, herbs and vitamins and alter the way the medicine works. Ensure that your doctor is aware about all your other medications before prescribing you with a dose of Acnestar Gel. Acnestar Gel is generally safe during pregnancy, but consult a doctor before taking it.
Acnestar Gel dosage recommended for adults for serious infections is usually 150-300 mg every 6 hours and for even severe infections is 300-450 mg every 6 hours. Not completing the dose as per prescription may have adverse affects and is therefore not advisable.
Uses:
- Lower Respiratory Tract Infection
Acnestar Gel is used in the treatment of lower respiratory tract infection like bronchitis, pneumonia caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
- Skin and structure Infection
Acnestar Gel is used to treat skin and structure infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes.
- Intraabdominal Infection
Acnestar Gel is used in the treatment of intra-abdominal infections caused by Helicobacter pylori, Staphylococci and Streptococci.
- Gynecological infections
Acnestar Gel is used in the treatment of gynecological infections like vulvitis, vaginitiscaused by Streptococcus, Gardnerella, and Staphylococcus.
- Bone and Joint infections
Acnestar Gel is used in the treatment of bone and joint infections like Osteomyelitis caused by Staphylococci and Streptococci species.
Side Effects:
In addition to its intended effect, Acnestar Gel may cause some unwanted effects too. In such cases, you must seek medical attention immediately. This is not an exhaustive list of side effects. Please inform your doctor if you experience any adverse reaction to the medication.
