Description:

As a penicillin antibiotic, Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup treats bacterial infections. It interferes with the synthesis of cell wall in a bacteria and stops it from growing. It is used to treat infections of the lungs and airways, skin, middle ear, sinuses, and the urinary tract. It also treats conditions like tonsillitis, pneumonia, bronchitis and gonorrhoea. Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup when used with an antibiotic clarithromycin, it treats stomach ulcers.

You should not use amoxicillin if you are allergic to any penicillin based antibiotic. Amoxicillin can make birth control pills less effective so ask your doctor about using non hormonal birth control to prevent pregnancy during the treatment. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby as it may cause harm to the baby. To make sure amoxicillin is safe for you, inform your doctor if you have asthma, liver or kidney disease, mononucleosis, a history of diarrhoea caused by taking antibiotics; or food or drug allergies.

Drugs including prescribed and non prescribed such as vitamins, over the counter medicines and herbal products may interact with amoxicillin. Use of any kind of medication should be told to the doctor, he will advise you the use of any medicine.

Common side effects may include stomach pain, vomiting, nausea, diarrhoea, headache, vaginal itching or discharge or swollen or black tongue. Call your doctor at once if you have the following after using this medicine:

• diarrhoea, fever, coldor flu symptoms, cough, troubled breathing.
• swollen glands, severe skin irritation and rashesor joint pain.
• jaundice, confusion or weakness, dark coloured urine.
• numbness, severe tingling, painor muscle weakness.
• easy bruisingor unusual bleeding of nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum.

Take Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup exactly as prescribed by your doctor. They are available in liquid form, as chewable tablets and as extended-release tablets. Some forms of this medicine may be taken with or without food. Dosage is as per doctor’s prescription and it varies according to age, medical condition and how severe the condition is.

Uses:

•  Ear Infection (Otitis Media)

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup is used to treat infections in the middle ear caused by Streptococci and Staphylococci strains of bacteria.

•  Nose Infection

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup is used in the treatment of infections in the nose and nasal chamber caused by Streptococci and Staphylococci strains of bacteria.

•  Throat Infection

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup is used in the treatment of infections in the throat and airways leading to lungs namely Tonsillitis and Pharyngitis caused by Streptococci and Staphylococci strains of bacteria.

•  Lower Respiratory Tract Infection

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup is used in the treatment of infections in the airways leading to the lungs. The infection can be Pneumonia, acute bronchitis or others caused by Streptococci and Staphylococci strains of bacteria.

•  Skin Infection

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup is used in the treatment of infections of skin and skin structure caused by Streptococci and Staphylococci strains of bacteria.

•  Urinary tract infection

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup is used in the treatment of infections of urinary tube, bladder (Cystitis) and kidneys (Pyelonephritis).

•  Gonorrhea and associated infections

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup is used in the treatment of Gonorrhea and associated infections in the urinary tube and the region around the reproductive organs in both male and female.

 typhoid fever

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup is used in the treatment of typhoid and paratyphoid fever.

•  stomach ulcers

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup is used in the treatment of stomach ulcers caused by Helicobactor pylori. It is normally used in combination with other medicines.

•  Dental Abcess

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup is used in the treatment of infection of gums that result in formation of pus around the roots of the tooth.

•  Endocarditis

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup is used in the prevention of a condition where the inner walls of the heart gets swollen.

Side Effects:

In addition to its intended effect, Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup may cause some unwanted effects too. In such cases, you must seek medical attention immediately. This is not an exhaustive list of side effects. Please inform your doctor if you experience any adverse reaction to the medication.

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup can cause allergic reactions characterized by rashes on the skin, swelling of face, tongue or throat and difficulty in breathing

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup can cause loose stools along with or without the presence of blood.

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup can cause fever along with flu like symptoms including swollen glands; difficulty in breathing; painful joints and difficulty in swallowing food.

•  Joint pain- Moderate Less Common

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup can cause painful and swollen joints and bones causing discomfort especially in the lower back area.

•  Skin yellowing- Moderate Less Common

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup can cause jaundice like symptoms viz. yellow skin and eye, dark colored urine, fever, weakness and confusion.

•  Easy bruising and bleeding- Moderate Less Common

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup can cause anemia like effect resulting in unusual bleeding and formation of red patches under the skin.

•  heavy menstrual bleeding- Moderate Less Common

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup can cause increased menstrual bleeding.

•  Tooth discoloration- Moderate Less Common

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup can cause yellowing of teeth especially in paediatric patients.

•  Nausea or Vomiting- Moderate Less Common

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup can cause nausea or vomiting and discomfort in the stomach (painful cramps, loss of appetite etc.)

•  Altered sense of taste- Moderate Less Common

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup can cause blackening of tongue and altered sense of taste i.e bad aftertaste or change in taste altogether.

•  Convulsions- Moderate Less Common

Augmentin Dds 400 mg/57 mg Syrup can cause symptoms like agitation, lack of sleep, confusion and convulsions.
